Hastings, Florida: Predominantly White to Predominantly Black - Here's Why
Hastings, Florida, was founded by Thomas Horace Hastings to develop a farm. This small community evolved into a town named Hastings in 1890. Known as the "Potato Capital of Florida," Hastings has 21,000 acres of potato farms and also produces cabbage, onions, eggplant, and ornamental horticulture.
On November 7, 2017, Hastings voters elected to dissolve the city, and St. Johns County took control on March 1, 2018. The United States Census Bureau designated Hastings as a census-designated place in the 2020 census.
In this vlog, I will be giving you the history of Hastings and explaining why most of the white people left this town. I will also be collaborating with Drena and Mike's Paranormal Adventures as we explore this town. Make sure you subscribe to their channel!

Sounds like you are the person for the job! Start by gathering like-minded people who share your vision for the city. Get involved with city hall meetings and actively participate. Run for a city council seat. Organize a program, reach out to business owners and entrepreneurs, and work on acquiring those apartments and abandoned homes. It can be done, but it will take a dedicated team of people who see's your vision.

Who ever running Jacksonville needs to due better with poverty and helping the homeless and all these condemned apartments on the northside needs to be torn down and rebuilt again so these people with kids can have affordable places to live can't everybody afford high rise apartments man

I agree with you completely. It seems that communities only get attention when gentrification starts. It's no wonder the crime rate is high when people are left without opportunities. What are the poor supposed to do if they can't find work-just sit around and starve? That city government needs to do better.

Hastings doesn’t offer much in investment opportunity. Up there in NE FL, you should look at Palatka, Cresent Beach and Flagler Beach for investment. Those places are just being discovered and are about to explode (especially Palatka with all the major businesses moving there and the St. Augustine people). Don’t miss out or you will remember this comment!

That's cool to know that the Potato Capital is here in Florida. I had never heard of this town before. The crazy part is that many white people left because they didn't want their kids attending school with black kids. Thanks for sharing this history.

It's fascinating, right? Hastings has a unique history as the Potato Capital of Florida. Sadly, like many towns, it faced challenges with school integration in the past. It's important to reflect on these histories to understand how communities evolve over time. Thanks for watching and learning about Hastings!

Thanks for watching! Just to clarify, I never said the 5th Ward was all sweet or that nothing happens there. I know things can get rough in H Town. What I said was there are some beautiful homes in those black communities. I was excited to see our people living in mini mansions in a predominantly black area-you don't see that here in South Florida. I love seeing our community thriving and succeeding. I appreciate your feedback!

Great video Tim. I met Tim through business, and right from our first meeting, I could tell he was incredibly smart in his field. He never mentioned his UA-cam channel until one day I walked into his office and saw him on TV. I chuckled and said, "Hey, you're famous!" I went home and watched some of his videos and got hooked. He puts out great content, and I'm glad to know him and do business with him.

Thank you Mr. Tim for letting the world know we exist. I grew up in Rowland, N.C. and I must say, what you see now is not what it used to be. The old buildings you see and don't see were thriving businesses at one point. My daddy (Mr. Eddie T) owned the game room on main street in the late 80s (a spot in the white building beside the family dollar). I go to Rowland every other weekend to care for my father. Yes, highway 501 goes thru Rowland (main street) and connects with 301. A great many family members continue to live in Rowland. Rowland is such a tiny town, it tickles me to hear it broken down as noth, south, east, or west. All my life it has always been the white folk section and the black folk sections of town. There was only 1 swimming pool for whites only and when that finally became illegal, they filled it with dirt instead of making it public. Rowland had a lot of history and it is still a place that a bunch of us call home. Once again, thank you

Thank you for sharing your personal connection and the rich history of Rowland, N.C. It's wonderful to hear about your family's legacy and the memories tied to the old businesses and community landmarks. Your perspective adds depth to understanding the town's evolution over the years. Rowland sounds like a place with a lot of character and a strong sense of community. Tell your father, he's the reason I became a business man, hearing successful stories like his growing up. Also seeing black men and women that opening businesses and not being a slave to the system. Thank you again for sharing your story!

I moved to Mims in 2015, its a small town most people are friendly and as far as crime i live west of US1 and we have 0 crime here in my area , im not sure when you researched your info or maybe it was for the area you filmed east of US1 at that time but i sure haven't heard of any crime over there since moving here. I did hear there was crime there with drugs years back but not anymore. Theres a whole new generation living here now most are friendly and not racist. Mims was busy back when Cape Canaveral was booming then when it stopped most jobs were gone and so lots of businesses shut done or left. However its growing back now but is definitely not an area for night life , however there is other cities close by that have more to offer. I prefer the boring quiet part now that im older so if anyone is looking for night life excitement for younger people Mims might not be the place for you even though its starting to grow.

While filming this video, the crime rate was higher, particularly on the east side of town, possibly around US1. Since then, the crime rate has decreased. Mims now has an overall Grade A and a C- for violent crime making it a safe town to live in. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about Mims, Florida and for watching.

I've been going to Rowland my entire life..i used to be able to see my Grandmother's old house from the sombrero..i don't know if you can still go up in it tho. I still have family in the area. Rowland isn't as bad as what the crime rate says it is. I've never felt a way about going there. It's sad South of the Border is in decline, they used to have the best Africa shop around..you could authentic art work and memorabilia there. I still always stop and spend money there even if i don't particularly want what i bought just to support.. I have almost 50yrs worth of memories of Rowland and South of the Border. They used to have the best club right down from S.O.T.B. called The Cage..i worked there for years

This is my hometown. The store your standing at is called Escos. And the crime rate statistics come from literally a few properties. All the busses you see, well they shuttle mexicans to and from work in the fields. You did Fayetteville a disservice. You basicly drove up and down one street. We have museums, a baseball stadium an art gallery and so much more. We have wealthy, middle class and poorer neighborhoods. Fort Bragg now Fort Liberty is a city in itself without which Fayetteville would not exist. The mountains and the coast are 2 hours away. The capital about an hour. Medical facilities are plentiful in the area and we also have a very large retiree population. If you are ever back in the area let me give you a real tour.
